For Hindu people, Varanasi is what Mekka is for Muslims. Mother Ganga flows through this holy city taking with her ashes of those who were lucky enough to die in here

Coming here we were expecting to find pervasive spiritual atmosphere.
The greater was our surprise when we noticed the city isn't much different from noisy and rubbishy Delhi.

Once again we have noticed huge gap between our cultures.

Public toilets cover peoples needs only partly. How are women supposed to use them?

One of the solutions for sightseeing is using autorikshas.


Flower garlands are being used for ceremonial purposes as well as for for decoration. Together with coconuts they are part of religious rituals.

Every day, thousands of flowers are offered to Indian gods. It is hard to imagine, where are do they all come from.

Making garlands is a very serious job. European style flower shops are not to be found here.


The green dish in the background is called palak paneer. It is spinach curry with white cheese. Definitely worth trying!

Sitar is a magnificent instrument. Very characteristic looks goes with beautiful sound.

Because of it's fixed tuning, the instrument is limited. When almost everything can be played on guitar or piano, sitar is usually applied to traditional Indian styles.



Rifles used by police well remember the days of British occupation.

How are sweets made in India? You take milk, sugar and spices, then mix it all together. Sounds familiar? Maybe. One shouldn't be expecting anything known though.
For us, the taste is insipid. Mostly because of lack of sour component.

We are drawn to icecream stall what after a while turns out to be a big mistake. Icecream taste like incense.
